Back in time

After a quick dinner friend A. and I went to a candle lit concert in the Portugese synagogue in Amsterdam.  Ensemble Judique, a group of young musicians, played a very attractive combination of classical and Argentine music. While listening I was looking around in the wonderful building, built towards the end of the golden age. The atmosphere brought alive the book (Amsterdam by Russell Shorto) I happen to read at the moment. It's about the history of Amsterdam, in which the 17th century is an important period. I can highly recommend visiting a candle light concert in the synagogue, going to a concert of Ensemble Judique and reading Shortos' book.
