Sour & sweet

We all love rhubarb here. Last week we ate rhubarb-crumble for desert, drank rhubarb-syrup with iced tea and made rhubarb-chutney to accompany the meat in a few weeks. Use rhubarb now or put it in the freezer, because before you know it is the longest day of the year. After that it contains too much oxalic acid and that's not good for your health.

I've never heard that you shouldn't eat rhubarb after the longest day, in Canada we always ate it the whole growing season and here in NZ it's a year-round crop though it does die back a bit in winter and is hardly worthwhile. I'm going to check it out though, you should too on the chance you could be enjoying rhubarb crumbles longer! I have to have a look at the rhubarb syrup recipe though, I can just imagine how good it tastes!
