Memories

My brother has scanned all slides from our youth. I'm not a reminiscing person, but I loved to see these pictures again. And wanted to share some. The picture on the left is made in Switserland in 1972. Everything looks very idyllic, but I was ill (mumps) the whole vacation and kept my parents awake. The other slide was taken on the dutch coast. Do you see how cool my mother looked in, I guess, 1978?

Same fabric

Finally finished. New schoolbags for the girls (yes, I should have ironed them before taking pictures). I did cut the fabric about three months ago. I didn't dare to sew two completely different messenger bags. Because then there is always one favorite and the girls compete about that item all the time. So these bags are almost identical, apart from some small details (a big risk already, but they both seem to be satisfied). I used this tutorial at mmmcrafts again.

For my mother

The dotted fabric was a birthday-present from my mother. Bought in France, but made in Japan. I gave it back to her in the form of a toilet case. Without a pattern, pockets on the inside, pockets on the outside, from waterresisting fabric and closed with a personal button. You see the punched gifttag? I was satisfied how that turned out.

Not only for christmas-dinners

Yesterday we ate one of my favorite deserts. Simple, yet sophisticated and with a surprising taste. Thick yoghurt mixed with whipped cream and vanilla, finished with a pistache, mint and honey topping. Here you can find the recipe in dutch. Only I doubled the amount of yoghurt and kept the rest the same. It's less sweet that way. The kids love it too.

The result counts

The house has been painted outside as well as inside. The bathroom, toilet, livingroom floor and plinths are ready. But the kitchen? No. You can see that the lower cupboards are already there, but the upper shelves and worktop will be placed next year. Urggh. In the meantime the storeroom functions as a temporary place to cook. Ideal to prepare christmas dinner. Not! But my daughter and I had a lot of fun doing that anyway.

For Cecile

For the scarf I used the same pattern as for the shoulderette. With very thick yarn and hook 12. I planned to make this one for myself. But when asked (for present-inspiration), my brother told me that his girlfriend loves green. So I decided that this scarf would be hers.

For you

Red, green & sweet

Today the girls had a christmas-dinner at school. All parents had to make something for the buffet. N and I made pancakes. Baked, sprinkled with icing sugar, rolled, cut and held together by these christmas-colored pins. With a circle-punch these were quickly made.

Felt house ornaments

This is one of the small projects we made during my birthday-workshop. So simple (even kids can easily make it)and with cute result. The template contains three different houses and some embellishments to choose from. A perfect way to get through a dark and snowy evening.

Warm back and shoulders

Of course the other girl wanted a shoulderette too. Although it is just a rectangular piece of crochetwork, with fairly thick (100%) wool and gauge 5, it took me quite some time to make it. I counted quickly and I came to the amount of a little less than 2000 stitches! But don't let it discourage you to make one yourself. It is worth the effort.

To make you envious

Here are some of the presents I got last sunday. The jartops (royal VKB) can be used on standard glas jars, to make any jar into a useful can or castor. Hetty knit a beautiful pillow and made an embroidered button for me. Better pictures here and here. Floortje really spoiled me. She made a beautiful apron, accompanied by two plates of Donna Wilson and a cute postcard (ttable-office), bought at Tas-ka. Floor gave me a healing-cuddle-stone. From a book-gift-certificate I bought the cookbook Bill's basics. Saskia made my daughters happy with the knit Barbie-dress. Am I lucky to have friends with such good taste and skills!

Red, straw, silver and gold

Although our livingroom and kitchen are not particularly ready for christmas, the girls decorated the tree yesterday. Just one ornament didn't survive being handled by those small hands. Today I made some new paper ones. Following this, this and this tutorial. And this star is still on my list.

Perfect day

Last sunday my birthday-party took place. Actually I'm not a party-girl, so I turned it into a lunch with a creative workshop afterwards. Thirteen girlfriends were invited. After the champagne and delicacies we made felt christmas ornaments and crochetted hearts. It felt great to be surrounded by all these friends. Thank you, ladies! On the right you see the contents of a small goodie-bag the girls received to take home. A package to get through the dark days before christmas. Some crafts, music, recipes and a little light.

Win, win, win

Like last year I'm taking part in the Sew Mama Sew!-Giveaway Day. By leaving a comment on this post you can win a set of two custom name-stamps. The little faces are made after pictures. I'm willing to send it to any place of the world.
This giveaway is closed. Thanks for all your comments. My husband chose a number between 0 and 342 and Meisjesmama is the winner!

From the book

We had to come up with presents for three big boys turning 5 and 6. What was easier than taking a project from my own (soon to be published) book? :D Each boy got his own personal stool. I didn't take pictures of two of the three stools. But I could 'borrow' one picture from Jilles mothers blog. I think the parents liked this present better than the boys, that's why we added a small toy too.

Welcome Wies

Yesterday my brother became a father. His girlfriend gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Wies is her name. Our ladies were excited to see a baby of just one day old. Neeltje (4y) said that later she is going to marry Wies (instead of her best friend Ruben), because she is so much in love with her.

Nice and warm

A very simple project. Just a rectangelar piece turned into a shoulderette by sewing the ends togerther. You can use any type of pattern, any kind of material. I found the instructions on The {C} side via the crochet-page of Craftgossip. Our little girl doesn't want to take the shrug off anymore.

Another treasure

Looking in my stock for crochet needles for a certain project I came across this basket. My mother found it on a flea-market years ago. Must have been a busy time when she gave it to me, because today I discovered that I had never looked closely at the contents. A lot of crochet needles, a small weaving tool for repairing clothes and . some very old parisian embroidery patterns. But I'm wondering what the flower-shaped tool was/is used for. Do you know? The picture on the right reminds me of a site called Things Organized Neatly. A place of recognition :D.

All festive

Saint Nicolas has brought the girls these totally cute dresses. And yesterday I cut out a street of little houses (inspired by Erika) for the window. And suddenly, while the kids are still overwhelmed by the Saints gifts, I sens this christmas-is-coming-feeling in the house.

Plans for 2011

A spontanious action. We'll be visiting Paris in january. We've just made a reservation for this very cute appartment (thanks Janine). Our youngest is talking about visiting Paris and the Tour Eiffel for ages. So the girls were extatic when we told them we would stay there. Do you have any suggestion for activities with children in Paris? Where to have lunch, which museum, cute shops for mom, etc?
