The day after

A walk in the woods and dunes with grandpa. A great opportunity to test her new hat. It had to be pink. Not my favorite colour (pinkstinks), but our youngest is a girly girl. All the pink yarn available in my stock resulted in this elf-hat. The pattern is to be found here (in dutch) or here (in english). I customized the pattern (no flaps, but a curve for the ears).

Christmas present

A last minute christmas-swap. Ingrid from WoodWoolStool sent me this recycled wooden tree. What a beauty. It is going to stay in our house long after christmas. Check her site, because she makes fantastic stools with crocheted slipcovers. Those are on my wishlist for my daughters bedrooms.

Bichos do Brasil

We enjoyed some warm brazilian music this afternoon. A theater-show for kids from Teatro Munganga. So much fun. Even better was the accompanying dancing-workshop afterwards. The children (and some attached parents) learned to dance the basics of the Samba and how to impersonate the animals from the show.

#158

The Toy Society hosts a Christmas drop: Just leave a toy somewhere, to be found by someone, who can take it home. Spreading a bit of random love in the holiday season. This little fellow was left outside a theater today. I hope he finds a loving home.

Paper-related

For all of you paper-addicts I have some links to share. At How about Orange I found the link to Jetpens. This is where I ordered the mini-envelope-template above. Great way to recycle paper from the paper-bin. I also like these paperclips. Then I came across etsy-shop Nothingelegant via Ozowiezo. It is not easy to keep your money in your pocket when going through so much cute stuff: stamps, stickers, tape, notebooks. The following link doesn't cost you anything. A very practical set of home management printables. I'm using the to-do-lists all the time. The design is very sober. When you're more into colourful, try these ones from HomemadeHappiness via Babyccino Kids.

Quality time

This good tutorial brought back memories and gave inspiration for another project with the kids. At first they were more interested in quantity than in quality, but after a while they also enjoyed decorating their salt-dough figures.

Pffff...

Yesterday I suddenly realised that today will be the last day of day-care and afterschool-care before Christmas holiday for the girls. So I worked very hard to get the christmas-presents ready for the lovely ladies who take care of my little angels one day a week. Bag-hangers, inspired by a pattern from this fantastic Japanese book about working with felt.

Not too sweet

I've been baking scones like these since I was a student. So simple, so little time, so delicious. If you want to try: Stir 250gr of self-raising flour, 30gr cold butter in small pieces, 2 tablespoons of sugar,a pinch of salt and 125ml sour cream or butter milk into a crumbly mixture. Add one egg and knead until it becomes a ball of dough. Roll a 2cm thick layer and punch out circles of 5cm. 25 minutes in an oven of 200C. Serve with clotted cream or mascarpone and jam. Eat when they are slightly warm!

Another rainy day

In the Noordbrabants Museum is an exhibition of Marjolein Bastin. Not my thing, but there's a wonderful childrens-exhibition of one of her characters: Vera the Mouse. I took my daughters and little friend Sara to see the beautiful paintings and Vera's collections. But the girls loved the closet filled with dress-up clothes best. Very cute dresses, skirts, aprons, blouses and a real dressingroom with mirrors. How I love these museum-visits with children!

Goodness

My blogfriend Jo from A Bit of This and a Bit of That sent me this fantastic package. We agreed to do a regular swap. She's sending me japanese magazines and I send her europian stuff in return. This time she added a felt christmas-ornament, a little game and some sweets for the kids. Thanks, Jo. From the magazine Cotton Time I used a guide to crochet this scraf for my daughter, in two shades of green. It is a bit 'granny', so I will have to add a big coloured button or something like that.

Tetris quilt

A few days ago I sent a package to Suzette from Wat maakt Suzette nu? She plans to make a quilt in a tetris pattern and invited her readers to add some squares. Maybe you could find some small pieces of red, orange, yellow and pink fabric in your stock too.

Sinterklaas

Today Saint Nicolas came along. The girls were very nervous, but got exactly the presents that were on their wishlist. They were shaking with excitement. Luckely it is raining today, so it's a perfect day to play with the new toys, enjoy spice nuts and sinterklaas-soupe (with carrots, mandarin, orange and spices). I found this apt recipe in our family-planner, which is actually a childrens-agenda from Boekie Boekie. For those celebrating, have a fun Sinterklaas!

Winner

I've received a lot of great mail these days. Like this perfect detailed little felt ornament of Else and the gocco-printed bag and lavender-pillow with 'the girl who knitted love' from Ana. And some more gifts that I will be mentioning later. Now it is time for giving. I want to thank all of you who entered my give-away, for the friendly comments. And the winner is: Victoria from 13mimosa! And to all the others, you could order a set of custommade stamps like these...

Little pearls from Japan

Of course the other daughter needed an apron-dress too. The pattern came from this book. Japanese crafting books are great. Beautiful patterns and ideas, explained in step by step pictures and/or drawings. No need to read Japanese. You can order them via Yesasia or Amazon, by isbn-numbers. And those you can find at Crafting Japanese or Japan couture addicts. Also good places to find reviews.
